Angul District Kickboxing Association(ADKA) headed by its President Shri Satyabrata Swain and General Secretary Shri Kartik Dakua has taken a bold step in hosting the 16th Junior National Kickboxing Championship-2011 & 17th Senior National Kickboxing Championship-2011 on 07-10th April 2011 at the Angul Stadium, Angul, Orissa.
Kickboxing Association of Angul (ADKA) is the only District Kickboxing Association. Affiliated to All Orissa Kickboxing Association (AOKA) , is promoting & controlling the game of Kickboxing in and around Angul. In this short span of time ADKA has successfully organized Five times State Championships, Referee/Judges Seminar & Camps, Two times Inter District Championship, One times East Zone Championship, Two times IAKO PRO National Championships in ANGUL with the support of District Sports Authority, NALCO and All Orissa Kickboxing Association.
Due to School/Colleges working days the participation was limited to 650 only from 22 member associations of IAKO. But the standard of competitions were very good and well managed by the Referee panel headed. The Medal Tally for both the championships is attached here with.
All Orissa Kickboxing Association founded by Engineer S.S. Harichandan is the premier State Kickboxing Association and member of the National Federation IAKO(WAKO India) functioning from Bhubaneswar. This is the first State Association of IAKO received Recognition fro Orissa Olympic Association and Dept. of Sports & Youth Services, Govt. of Orissa since 1995.
“Indian Association of Kickboxing Organisations” (IAKO) is the only member National Federation from India representing the International Federation i.e. “World Association of Kickboxing Organizations” (WAKO) in the field of promoting/controlling Kickboxing sport in the country since 1994.
WAKO is a member of SPORT ACCORD- formerly known as General Association of International Sports Federations(GAISF) since 2007. As a result Kickboxing has become an official game in the “World Martial Arts games” was held in Aug’2010 in Beijing sanctioned by International Olympic Committee(IOC).
Olympic Council of Asia(OCA) has already been recognized “WAKO Asian Kickboxing Federation” and included Kickboxing in “Asian Indoor Games” since 2007.
In India we have applied to Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Govt. of India as well as to Indian Olympic Association(IOA) for Recognition since 1997. Continuous efforts are there and updated documents are already submitted in this regard time to time in anticipation of an early decision.
However IOA and Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Govt. of India has sanctioned our National Kickboxing Team to take part in “Asian Indoor Games” of OCA in 2007-MACAU, 2009-BANGKOK and “1st Asian Martial Arts Games” 2009-BANGKOK where our members brought laurel by winning many medals including Gold medal.
Mean time on observing the popularity of Kickboxing sport “School Games Federation of India”(SGFI) has been recognized IAKO and included Kickboxing as a competition sport in “National School Games Championship” since 2006.
Also “Association of Indian Universities”(AIU) has already recognized the efforts of IAKO and became its member since 2007, hence soon we are going to introduce Kickboxing in College and University games.
It is worthy to mention that Mr. Sushil Kumar from Orissa own a Bronze Medal in the Full Contact Event in the World Junior Kickboxing Championship was held in Masa Carara, Italy in 2004 supported by Dept. of Sports, Govt. of Orissa..
During 3rd World Cadets Kickboxing Championship from 22-27th Sept’2008 in Naples, Italy the Indian Team brought laurels to the country by winning two Silver Medals by our members from Orissa & West Bengal. There were about 1350 participants from more than 45 member countries of the International Kickboxing Federation ( WAKO ) and the event was supported by the Italian Olympic Committee, CONI.
In the recently held 4th World Cadet Kickboxing Championship in Belgrade on Sept’2010 our member from West Bengal own a Gold Medal for the Country.
It is true that the formal Recognition by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports(MYA&S) and Indian Olympic Association(IOA) is delayed but they have approve IAKO and Kickboxing by sanctioning the participation of our National Teams in the Asian Indoor Games since 2007. Again Kickboxing is the prime Martial Art Sport included in School Games since 2007 as IAKO was recognized by School Games federation of India (SGFI) since 2005.
However efforts are there for an early recognition and in this regard the role of IAKO President Engineer S.S. Harichandan, Brig. K.P. Singh Deo (Chairman- Sports Development Committee, IOA), Shri Raj Singh (President, IAKO Delhi & Chairman, IAKO), Padmashree Satpal (President, SGFI), Shri Shivanand Ray ( President, IAKO Orissa & VP, IAKO), Shri Montu Das, Secretary General, IAKO etc. is praise worthy.
